Picture this: the smell of fresh mountain air, a light breeze blowing off the Rocky Mountain terrain. And countless hours of beautiful scenery to enjoy on your bike in Summit County. The peaceful (or exciting) cycling adventures you’ve always imagined are an easy reality here, in the Frisco area. Whether you’re an expert mountain biker ready to hit the trails or just looking to enjoy the paved bike paths here in town, we have all the tips you need to get started. If you’re looking for an easy ride and a path that’s paved, be sure to check out the bike path around Lake Dillon. The trail is 18 miles long with a reasonable 1,100 foot climb and descent over Swan Mountain. This path is easy to access from the Frisco Inn on Galena, and you can start your adventure at the Frisco Marina. If you didn’t bring bikes, no worries we’ve got you covered. Our friends at Pioneer Sports rent bikes of all kinds, including the perfect ride for this nearby route. If you are enjoying your stay in Frisco with family, Pioneer also rents bikes for kids and trailers for your little ones. Ask about a discount for Frisco Inn on Galena guests! Another great trail a step-up on the difficulty scale is the Vail Pass Summit bike path. The unique thing about this path is that it’s the only Colorado mountain pass with a bike path the entire distance on both sides. The ride up to the summit is 24 miles. If you’re more interested in the downhill ride than the uphill and you rent from Pioneer Sports, you can catch their shuttle to the top of Vail Pass and start there to enjoy a smooth and breezy bike ride down. If you had room to bring your mountain bike along, we also suggest you check out the Wheeler Trail. This trail is for more advanced mountain bikers and can be a challenging but rewarding ride. This trail begins with a 3,200 foot climb between Peaks Eight and Nine in Breckenridge. Be prepared to hit a few difficult inclines and finish with a technical downhill ride. This journey is a much better one with a partner and is easily enjoyed between Breckenridge and Frisco. There are also several different ways to hit this trail, and we suggest looking here for more information on what route suits you best. All of these bike trails are perfect between May and September, but as always, check the weather before heading out. Running into dangerous conditions like lightening or wet rock can ruin your experience in a snap. And on that note, please be sure to wear a helmet and other safety equipment to make your epic adventure a safe one. If you have any other questions or want to learn more about other trails in the area, stop by the front desk and ask an innkeeper to point you in the right direction for your skill level. We have some very avid cyclers on staff and they’re always happy to help you find just the right Frisco adventure.
